Pick your compromise
- One large pie with two topping choices: Paulie Gee’s Wicker Park Slice Shop.
- Two separately topped small pizzas: The StopAlong’s Bucktown location.
- Two individual pizzas during lunch: Piece, whose lunch menu runs daily until 4 p.m.

Paulie Gee’s Wicker Park: divide the toppings, keep one pie
Paulie Gee’s official Wicker Park menu makes the relevant promise unusually clear: it lists a build-your-own half-and-half pizza alongside its 20-inch whole pies. The base is $24, with separate half-pie and whole-pie topping prices. Pepperoni, for instance, is $2 on a half and $4 on the whole; mushrooms are $1.25 and $2.50. That makes the half-pepperoni, half-mushroom example $27.25 before other additions.
Choose this branch when the disagreement is about toppings and you still want to share a single pie. For a preset order, the menu also has mushroom and pepperoni whole pies, plus separate vegan selections. Half-and-half is a topping arrangement, however, not a guarantee of dietary separation. Discuss allergies directly with the restaurant.

The StopAlong Bucktown: give each person their own pizza
Two 10-inch pizzas are the straightforward route when your preferences extend beyond one ingredient. The Bucktown location’s authorized ordering menu lists a small cheese pizza for $13 and Major Payne for $16, with pepperoni, jalapeños, garlic, cilantro and spicy tomato sauce. The $29 combined food subtotal buys two distinct orders rather than asking both people to agree on one base and one set of extras.
Its menu also lists a 10-inch Elle Woods with vegetables and vegan mozzarella for $16, useful when dairy changes the discussion. That explicit option is more helpful than guessing which cheese pizza could be modified. The restaurant’s official location page lists Monday as closed. This guide uses the 1812 N. Milwaukee Avenue branch, not its separate Logan Square restaurant.

Piece: independent toppings, with a lunch deadline
Piece’s daily lunch menu offers individually sized pizzas from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A cheese pizza is $11; one topping is $12. Two one-topping orders therefore start at $24, so a daytime meal lets each diner make a separate choice without buying two full-size pies.
At dinner, use the regular size-and-topping menu instead: a small starts at $19, with listed toppings charged separately. Piece describes its small as serving one or two, an estimate to weigh against your own appetite. Do not carry the individual lunch price into an evening plan. The booking policy adds another distinction: parties of five or fewer are walk-in, and all tables have a posted 90-minute limit. This is the choice for a pizza meal with a clear time boundary, rather than a reservation for two.

Decide how much disagreement the order needs to handle
A half-and-half pie works when you agree on the overall pizza and want a limited topping split. Two small pizzas give each diner a complete order; that can matter more than a few dollars saved on one larger pie. At Piece, the individual lunch format puts the time of day into the decision, too.
If one person's dietary needs make sharing impractical, choose an explicitly labelled menu option and confirm preparation details. Do not use the half-and-half arrangement as a substitute for that conversation. For a wider mixed-diet dinner, our Wicker Park guide when one friend eats vegan compares substantive orders beyond pizza.
Paulie Gee’s is the clearest answer to “can we split the toppings?” The StopAlong is the clearer answer to “can we each order what we actually want?” Piece earns its place for the lunch plan. A pizza decision gets easier once you stop treating every pie as the same size of compromise.
