Late Dinner On Queen West: Choose By Food-Service Hours, Not Bar Closing Time

Check the kitchen hours before relying on a 2 a.m. closing time. On and just off Queen West, these three restaurants publish more useful information: La Palette separates kitchen hours from bar service, Bar Poet states its main-menu window, and Fox On John gives its late food menu a start and finish time.

Choose around the time you expect to order, then compare the meal. The options stretch from John Street to Dovercourt; a late steak plate near one end and pizza at the other are different plans, even when both fit the clock.

Start With The Food Window

  • A Bistro Main Before Midnight On Friday Or Saturday: La Palette.
  • Pizza Under A Published Daily Main-Menu Window: Bar Poet, noon–2 a.m.
  • A Dedicated Late Menu From 9 p.m.: Fox On John, nightly until 2 a.m.

Compare The Relevant Menu

Figures below are CAD for one named food order, excluding drinks, dessert, tax and tip. Published food-service endpoints do not establish seating availability or guarantee that a last-minute arrival can complete an order. Aim to arrive with time to order and confirm directly when close to the cutoff.

These are different orders, not equivalent portions. The point of the table is to establish a plausible food plan before a late night sends you chasing a bar that has finished cooking.

La Palette: Put The Kitchen Deadline In The Plan

492 Queen St W · Queen West, between Spadina and Bathurst

La Palette is useful because its official page distinguishes the kitchen from the bar. The kitchen is listed until midnight Friday and Saturday,11 p.m. Thursday, and 10 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Sunday. Tuesday is closed. The bar, snacks and drinks have a separate schedule; use the kitchen window when a main dish is the reason for coming.

The posted menu lists duck-leg confit with braised red cabbage, fingerling potatoes and red-wine gastrique at CAD 45. That gives you a specific bistro-main price rather than a vague suggestion to find something French after the show.

Dinner reservations are handled by phone at 416-929-4900; walk-ins are also welcomed. Call with the time you actually expect to arrive and say that you want dinner. A Friday kitchen deadline does not make Sunday service equally late, so choose the day as carefully as the dish.

Bar Poet: Choose Pizza And Read The Late Seating Conditions

1090 Queen St W · West Queen West, at Dovercourt Road

Bar Poet’s official FAQ states that its main menu is served from noon to 2 a.m., seven days a week. That is direct food-service evidence, separate from the fact that it operates a bar. The menu lists the OG Margherita pizza at CAD 23, with tomato sauce, basil, mozzarella, fior di latte, olive oil and Parmigiano.

It is the choice here when you want pizza at a later hour and the western address fits your evening. A dip, another dish or drinks will raise the food or overall subtotal; price the order you want rather than treating a pizza figure as a complete night out.

The FAQ also lists DJs from 10 p.m. and a 19-plus policy after 10 p.m. Seating is predominantly high-tops, with limited booths. Use the restaurant-linked Resy route and read your booking terms; the listed dining allocation is two hours.

Fox On John: Use The Menu That Actually Starts At 9 p.m.

106 John St, Unit 3 · Just South Of Queen West, Entertainment District

Fox On John offers a separate After D9rk menu published for 9 p.m.–2 a.m. nightly. That makes its CAD 27 steak frites a specific late-menu example:6 oz steak with fries and truffle-garlic aioli. Use that menu and time window, rather than transferring a regular-menu steak price into the late offer.

If you want a smaller order, the late page also lists three chicken sliders at CAD 15 and truffle Parmesan fries at CAD 6. Together, those make a CAD 21 food subtotal. Neither option tells us what will satisfy your appetite, but both tell you what a chosen order costs before the extras.

The official website provides its booking route and confirms the John Street address. This is the eastern option in the comparison, just off Queen rather than at Dovercourt. Establish your meeting point before committing to a time; “Queen West” alone is too imprecise for this shortlist.

Match The Meal To The Clock

For a 9 p.m. meal, all three published windows can be relevant on their service days. If Friday or Saturday dinner will start after 11 p.m., La Palette’s midnight kitchen deadline calls for a direct timing check. Later still, Bar Poet and Fox On John publish 2 a.m. food windows, with the different menus and geography above.

If the evening puts you close to last food service, contact the restaurant with your expected arrival time and party size. Leave time to be seated and order; 1:59 is a poor dinner plan.

Choose La Palette for its bistro main and earlier kitchen deadline, Bar Poet for pizza at the western address, or Fox On John for an eastern late-menu plate. Start with the food-service window; a later drink is a separate decision.
