Hosting a Seafood-Loving Visitor on Ossington

If your visitor wants seafood, ask what sort of dinner they mean before booking: oysters followed by a main, ceviche alongside cooked fish, or grilled trout with rice and curry. La Banane, Foxley and Soos support those three quite different orders on Ossington.

The host’s preferences count, too. Two examples pair the guest’s seafood with a different centrepiece for their companion; the Foxley order keeps fish at the centre for both. Use that distinction to choose the evening together.

Pick the seafood plan

  • A raw-bar starter and individual mains: La Banane, with a higher illustrated food bill.
  • Ceviche and steamed fish in the same order: Foxley.
  • Grilled fish, rice and a tofu alternative: Soos’s à la carte menu.

What these orders cost

All figures are CAD for the specified order for two, excluding drinks, dessert, tax and tip. These are menu examples with different compositions and quantities, not equivalent fixed-price meals.

La Banane: start at the raw bar, then choose separate mains

227 Ossington Ave · Ossington, by Dundas Street West

Start here when your guest wants shellfish and a main-course dinner, while you would rather order meat. The posted menu lists six east coast oysters at CAD32, grilled Newfoundland trout at CAD48 and braised lamb shank at CAD56. Add the CAD18 salade verte and the example reaches CAD154.

The trout is listed with tomato and marcona almond; the lamb with chestnut and amontillado. Those preparations give you a more useful conversation than simply asking whether the visitor likes French food.

This is the highest food subtotal here. The restaurant also cautions that its menu changes often and may differ from the posted version, so use the example to establish a comfortable budget and recheck the dishes before the visit. Its official booking route is linked directly from the restaurant.

Foxley: compare two ways of preparing fish

207 Ossington Ave · Ossington, near Dundas Street West

Foxley gives a seafood-focused dinner a specific contrast: Arctic char ceviche with green apple and ginger, alongside steamed whitefish with Asian greens and truffle sauce. With the seaweed and green papaya salad and rice, those four items total CAD72.50 on the official menu.

Choose this order when the guest wants to compare different fish preparations and the host also wants seafood. You can build the selection dish by dish; ceviche need not dictate the entire dinner. If your guest prefers cooked fish, start with the steamed whitefish and choose the remaining dishes together instead.

Foxley’s official reservation page links Resy. Use that route to plan the dinner; the public schedule’s day differences are below.

Soos: let fish and tofu share the evening

94 Ossington Ave · Ossington

Soos is useful when the visitor wants fish but their companion wants a different centrepiece. Its banana leaf fish is grilled steelhead trout with tamarind sambal, market vegetables and jasmine rice. The pineapple curry combines grilled tofu and pineapple with coconut curry and also lists jasmine rice. Add dhal and two pieces of roti and the example reaches CAD73.

That order gives you two named large plates to discuss rather than treating the non-fish dish as an afterthought. Check any dietary requirements directly: the menu’s V marking covers dishes that are vegan-friendly or can be made so.

Keep the party size in view if more friends join. The reservation terms require parties of six or more to take Feed Me, so this à la carte plan cannot simply be multiplied into a six-person booking.

Make the visit feel considered

If dinner marks a birthday, La Banane publishes useful celebration policies: candles can accompany a dessert from its regular menu, while bringing your own cake costs CAD25 per cake. It also states that it has no dress code—a useful detail for someone who packed for sightseeing. Dessert and cake fees are additional to the food example.

La Banane and Soos publish Wednesday–Sunday dinner service and Monday/Tuesday closures. Foxley lists Monday–Saturday, making it the published Monday or Tuesday option here. Sunday is not listed for Foxley.

Choose La Banane for shellfish followed by separate mains, Foxley for the ceviche-and-steamed-fish contrast, or Soos when fish and tofu need equal billing. The right welcome meal is the one your visitor wants to eat.
