Breakfast In Kensington Market: An Early Sandwich Or A Later Brunch

At 8 a.m., Sleepy Pete’s offers a Kensington breakfast plan; FIKA and El Trompo come later. That timing matters more than a broad list of neighbourhood favourites if you need food before an appointment or want to meet over eggs at 11. Choose a sausage-and-egg biscuit at Sleepy Pete’s, coffee with a cinnamon bun at FIKA, or El Trompo’s egg brunch with beans, tortillas and one coffee. The sources checked do not supply dependable current prices for these orders, so this is a guide to formats, inclusions and opening windows, without an invented cheap-breakfast promise.

Sleepy Pete’s For The Earlier Start

Sleepy Pete’s posts 8 a.m.–4 p.m. every day at 69 Kensington Avenue on its official restaurant profile. That is the practical reason to put it first when breakfast must happen before the later-opening choices here. The restaurant’s July 27 sausage-and-egg post identifies and photographs its biscuit sandwich. The biscuit, sausage, egg and cheese shown there make this a sandwich-led breakfast, rather than the egg plate with listed accompaniments at El Trompo.

Choose this when you want the sandwich itself to be the plan. A sandwich photograph does not establish a combo, included coffee, the current price or somewhere to sit. Those details were not verified, and the business’s own website is still a “Launching Soon” page rather than a usable menu. Check its official menu updates or ask at the counter for the day’s choices and price. We would not promise a particular biscuit variation or special on the strength of an older post.

FIKA For Coffee With A Bun

The official café menu at FIKA makes the coffee break specific: a Swedish cinnamon bun, called kanelbulle on the menu, alongside a cardamom latte. Its pastries are made in-house, according to the café. If a bun is not enough breakfast for you, the same menu lists a breakfast egg sandwich and a smoked-salmon sandwich. The café also lists a curated pour-over coffee menu for weekdays only, a useful distinction if that is the coffee you want.

Find this Toronto FIKA at 28 Kensington Avenue. Its official social profile lists an opening time of 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10:30 a.m. on the other days. It closes at 5 p.m. except Saturday, when it closes at 6 p.m. That later start makes it a better match for a coffee meeting after the morning’s first errand than for an 8:30 breakfast. The drinks and food are separate choices; this is not a verified breakfast package.

El Trompo For Eggs With The Accompaniments Counted

At 277 Augusta Avenue, El Trompo offers the clearest assembled egg-brunch format on this shortlist. Its official brunch menu includes refried beans, pico de gallo, four corn tortillas and one coffee without a refill. Huevos rancheros adds two fried eggs on fried tortillas with green sauce; huevos a la Mexicana uses scrambled eggs with tomato, onion and serrano pepper. There is also an egg-and-chorizo choice.

Choose it when you want those accompaniments to belong to the order, rather than deciding on a pastry, sandwich and drink separately. The website serves brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and posts a Monday closure. The brunch price is not posted, so confirm it before settling in if you are working to a firm budget. A restaurant booking policy was not verified. This is the Augusta restaurant’s menu; its separate food-truck offering does not establish restaurant brunch availability elsewhere.

Keep Breakfast And The Rest Of The Day Separate

For an early start, use Sleepy Pete’s posted 8 a.m. hours. For a later coffee-and-bun meeting, FIKA gives you a different format. If eggs, beans and tortillas are the meal you want, El Trompo’s brunch starts at 11. None of the posted schedules guarantees a seat, a short wait or that a particular item is in stock.

If your plans slip into lunch, our Kensington Market taco lunch guide compares individual tacos, a five-taco order and a birria combo. You can also browse Kensington Market coverage for other meal decisions.

This is a research-based shortlist using official café menus and restaurant information checked October 14, 2026. Sleepy Pete’s dish example comes from its dated official post; current availability should be confirmed. We have not visited or tasted these breakfasts.
